Today was the first day of out new music video assignment.
We were thrown straight in at the deep end after being told yesterday we were going to film a band today and so everyone was trying to get a grasp on their role. after a brief tutorial on how to hold and use a handheld studio camera I decided it wasnt for me as i know i wont be able to keep focused, keep the camera still and get the shots the director wants all at the same time. I also didn't take up the role of floor manager as i was it the whole of the last project. It is for these reasons I was incharge of the lighting.
After a brief tutorial from Graham on how to set up and use the lighting board I played around getting the desired effects. I also asked the sound gallery to keep repeating the song as it was pre-recorded so I could match the lights to the music. I opened the song with the two back spots and the main spot on static as the beging is rather slow. But during the song a drum beat gets louder and faster. For this i had to turn on the three light surrounding the drum. After this i could pretty much use all of the llights so long as it kept intime to the music and the songs feeling/atmosphere. soft lights for soft music. Flashing lights for fast upbeat and a single spot for the end which is then faded down to finish.
I really enjoyed this role and have leant a lot of new skills. I would like to develop this role further.
